Motivational Business Speaker
A Motivational Business Speaker Must Master Vital Busines Skills To Prosper
A motivational business speaker could be talking to two types of audience: internal or external customers. Internal are your employees, colleagues, sales team, etc, while external customers could be the stake holders, clients, customers, etc. Motivation therefore would have to be of two different types as well. But there is one thing in common for both types of audience – you are motivating them to think and possibly gearing them to take some action. This is because you are speaking for selling an idea, a product or a concept. Therefore a motivational business speaker should master certain presentation skills which are universally applicable.
One of the primary skills of a motivational speaker, whether he is speaking at a business or a political meeting, is that he has to inspire his audience with his speech, at the end of which, people should take home a thought which inspire them for some time to come. One of the greatest motivational speakers of our time was perhaps the great Martin Luther King, with his famous and influential ‘I have a dream” speech delivered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington in 1963. It still motivates and inspires millions across the world. The key to a successful motivating business presentation is to know the fiber of the audience. Who are you speaking to? What kind of background do they come from? What is their current level of motivation? Knowing them thoroughly would automatically throw light on what would motivate them. Since business is all about selling a product, an idea or a subject – thorough knowledge about the topic that you are going to talk on is vitally important.
It is said that a good beginning of a business presentation is winning half the battle. Many motivational business speakers use humor to loosen up the tensed environment, break the ice as well as kick start their own presentation. Humor has been known to be a great lubricant to wake up your audience, get them focused and keep them interested. The other tip to make a successful motivational business presentation is to keep your message restricted to 3 or 4 topics and keep them simple and easy to follow. Mahatma Gandhi, also known as India’s Father of the Nation, is known to give the simplest of all motivational speeches – yet, it inspired millions to fight the war of independence. Simple ideas go down well with any audience. The more jargons and impressive words you use, chances are that it would not be understood or remembered by half the audience.
One of the important points to remember in a motivational business speech or presentation is to ensure that your audience is never bored. While the motivational factors differ according to the need of the audience – you must speak their language. If it is an audience made up of the sales force of your company – you must bring in the rich heritage and culture of your organization, to which they also belong. Similarly, incentives on achievement of targets are information they are keen to know – so you must touch upon them. You must provide the kind of leadership qualities that they are looking for from the management as it is your responsibility to talk about this issue as well as provide answers to many ‘how to’ questions which the audience have in their minds with regard to sales achievement. Similarly, if you are trying to motivate your business partners into injecting further finances into your business operations, you must touch upon your past achievements and how the financiers are going to benefit if they put in more funds towards the growth of your enterprise. Remember, all business speeches must address the key question: what is in it for me? Motivation is a subjective term. What motivates you may not motivate another person. So when you make a motivational business speech, know exactly what the audience wants to hear – and phrase your presentation accordingly. Many motivational speakers begin their speech with a relevant motivation quote. Plenty of that is available on the net – choose the one which is most apt for your audience.
